Google Search Console Drops June Indexing Data With No Backfill

Site owners noticed on 11 September 2026 that the page indexing report in Google Search Console had lost several days of data from June 2026, with the chart showing a gap on the left where the June figures used to sit. It affects all properties, so it is a reporting problem rather than a change in how many of your pages are indexed.

John Mueller confirmed on Bluesky that the gap dates to a spell in June when indexing data was delayed and the report was not updated at the time: “there just isn’t any data for that period.” He added that Google does not back-fill indexing data and would check with the team, but the figures appear to be gone for good.

The takeaway: do not read the June gap as pages dropping out of the index or a penalty, and do not expect the numbers to return. If you report on indexed-page counts and rely on June as a baseline, treat that window as missing and use a period either side of it instead.
